World Longest Snake
At present, there are thousands of species of snakes all over the world. Many of these snakes are quite long, while many are almost tiny in size. It is now known that a majority of snakes are non-venomous. They are mostly constrictors, which kill their prey by constricting it. |
The most popular constrictors include boa, anaconda and python. Among the pythons, reticulated pythons are considered to be the longest snakes in the world, with average length varying between 10 feet and 20 feet.
Reticulated pythons are known to grow as long as 34 feet in some cases and unlike boa constrictors and anacondas, these pythons are less bulky and thick. This fact helps them to grow longer in length. These snakes are generally found in the South Asian region, and dwell mostly in wet habitats.
Like every other snake in the world, the reticulated pythons are carnivores, and prey on every creature depending upon its size relative to the snake. While small-sized reticulated pythons are believed to prey on warm blooded animals like birds and fowls, the giants are known to go for animals even as big as an adult human being. Being longer than other types of constrictors, one of the advantages that reticulated pythons have while killing their prey is that they are able to constrict a large part of the prey’s body during strangulation.
Long snakes like reticulated pythons, however, suffer from a big weakness. That is, their long size makes it quite difficult for them to move easily or remain hidden from the prey which they are planning to ambush.
