Yellow Spotted Lizard
The yellow-spotted lizards are scientifically known as Lepidophyma flavimaculatum. It is a night lizard found from Central Mexico to Panama. These lizards live in decaying logs in normal wet climates. It normally includes two subspecies. They are Lepidophyma flavimaculatum obscurum and Lepidophyma flavimaculatum. |
The yellow-spotted lizard is the largest of the night lizards in the world. It has a full growth of 12.7 centimeters, which is around 5.0 inches. They are black in color with yellow spots running along their sides from their rear flanks to the tip of their snouts. When it becomes an adult, the yellow spots shift normally into thin and subtle bands on their tails. Their underbody is plain yellow in coloring. Their heads are always smooth, and they resemble a snake in appearance, this means that their bodies are covered with rough skin.
The yellow-spotted lizard is viviparous. This means that it gives live birth to its young ones. The average life span of the lizard is around 10-15 years in the wild. The yellow-spotted lizard’s falls under the exotic pet trade, they are very aggressive, and give a painful bite, which severely pains for hours if anyone ends up handling them without care. You can normally handle the offsprings as pet if the baby lizards are acclimatized much early in life. Young lizards usually can coexist with like-sized species that enjoy a similar humid and warm climate. It is quite difficult to tame a lone adult lizard. They may damage their nostrum if kept in cages. The most difficult issue with the adult lizard is the shedding problem, which mainly occurs after they give birth to young ones if regular humidity is not kept constant in their cage.
