Difference Between Gecko And Lizard
The gecko differs from a lizard in many physical aspects. If a gecko has wider toes and big eye pupils apart from possessing a scaly skin, a lizard possesses four legs with moving eyelids and are cold-blooded. A gecko lays eggs in four to five pairs, whereas a lizard lays eggs in a nest and hatches them inside their bodies. The general diet for a gecko consists of butterflies, millipedes and cockroaches. A lizard's diet constitutes of fruits and insects widely. The lifespan of a gecko is comparatively more than a lizard, spanning a period of 5 to 7 years, whereas a lizard survives for only 1 to 3 years. |
The Geico gecko is quite aggressive, and will never tolerate another male Geico gecko or any species of lizards in its area. If it is kept as a pet, then it will become aggressive against a female if it is also kept in the same cage with her. Therefore it is advisable to keep the lizards and gecko in separate cages.
The basic difference could be made out by citing the eyelids of a lizard, whereas a gecko does not have one at all. Hence, they have a clean membrane covering and protecting the eye that they are constantly licking as a way to keep the membrane hydrated.
A gecko belongs to the class Reptilia, whereas a lizard belongs to Sauropsida class. Most of the geckos are small lizards. In turn, lizards are reptiles possessing four legs which could be moved firmly and swiftly even on the most vertical of the surfaces. Though the number of venomous kind of geckos is more in number, only two venomous varieties exist in lizards.
