What Table Food Can Cats Eat ?
It has been proven that many human foods could be toxic to a cat’s health, even in small amounts. It could lead to vomiting and tummy aches for the cats. Also, more importantly when cats are encouraged to eat human food, they will in the due course lose the taste for their own food. |
This way they will stand to lose all essential nutrients like taurine which are indispensable for a cat’s survival. Hence, it is always advisable to provide cats with the premium cat food rather than share a bit or two of the table food with them.
To begin with, onions or chocolate are considered toxic for cats. Onions has a substance that could kill the red blood cells in cats and cause anaemia. Garlic has the same substance, but in smaller amount but could nevertheless cause similar results.
Similarly, green tomatoes, green raw potatoes should be avoided as this could cause gastrointestinal problems in the cats. Grapes and raisins too should be avoided as the there are no substantial scientific evidence to prove that these are not harmless to pets.
Contrary to popular belief, adult cats when fed with nutritious diet do not necessarily need milk. In fact, many cats have been found to be lactose-intolerant and feeding milk could make things worse for them. As an alternative, cats might be given CatSip, a product that could help in digesting lactose in foods given to cats. Avoid giving cats spicy or fatty foods as these foods can make cats feel very sick.
Chicken or tuna fish can be given to cats, but bones must not be given as they could affect their mouth, teeth, and digestive systems.
