Caring For A Sick Cat
It is a tough time for the owner of a cat to see it sick. If the symptoms persist, then take the cat to a vet. Do not delay as you may not know how to take care of the cat effectively. The vet will treat the cat, and give you specific instructions. |
You may have to nurse the cat all through the day and even through the night. They are more fragile than children, and will not be able to express how awful they feel.
Make sure that the cat’s bed is clean, warm and dry. Do not expose it to outside environment when it is sick. Fresh air is good for humans, but your cat may not take to it when it is sick. Keep the room also draft-free.
You can allow it to move around to some extent, but do not let it get too tired. The body needs to rest and recuperate. Only then can it heal fast.
Keep recording the pulse rate and temperature. Check the pulse by putting your finger on the inside of the thigh. The rate should be within 110 - 130 beats per minute. The temperature of the cat should be between 100 and 101.5 degrees. Take the temperature by inserting the thermometer inside the anus of the cat. Lubricate it with Vaseline first so that it does not hurt the cat. If the readings are abnormal or on the rise, take the cat to the vet immediately. Also, note down the number of the vet so that you can call him in an emergency.
