While moving long distances you have to be lot more planned otherwise it could end up as a daunting task. Keep a moving file and start listing down things as you remember them. Start with clearing the clutter in your house. When you are moving, you need not take the unnecessary things along with you because you will only be wasting money shipping them or packing them. Clear room after room and the first place to start is your kitchen. Take a stock of perishable goods and plan on using them up first. Stop buying things in bulk at the same time, be it food items, cleaning items or anything else.
Then gradually move to the bedrooms and cut down on clutter. Keep a separate box for junk and disposing and start putting in all the items in it. Once you are down to the essentials, call the moving company to get an estimate. They will come and tell you how many boxes will be required and this way they will also be able to give you an estimate of the moving costs.
The mover’s do room by room packing and they even label each room items on the box. Be smart about what you are getting packed. Do not worry about their safety as the movers will wrap them up professionally. You have to be smart about the things you are getting packed. Even small items that you do not need can build up into huge volumes and add to your bill.
